Abstract
BOTH acute and chronic toxicities are exhibited by human and murine cells grown in culture in the presence of chlorinated hydrocarbon pesticides1–5. To learn more about the underlying mechanisms responsible for the acute toxicity, we have examined the effects of γ-chlordane on cell division and DNA synthesis utilizing synchronized mouse leukaemia cells (L-5178Y) grown in suspension culture. Synchronized cells provide a means of amplifying a toxic response which ultimately should provide significant clues to the nature of the molecular mechanisms of chlordane toxicity.
