Abstract
STIMULATION of specific immunocompetent cells by antigen has been postulated to involve an interaction of antigen with a complementary cell surface receptor. Furthermore, the specificity of these receptors, although not precisely established, may be very similar to that of serum-type antibody1–3. Evidence for this, in the case of anamnestic antihapten–protein antibody responses, has been obtained by studying the capacity of haptens to inhibit stimulation of secondary responses to hapten–protein conjugates1,4,5.
