Abstract
RECENT structural models1 for ribosomes give no insight into the interaction between ribosomal components and tRNA and mRNA during translation. We propose a structural model for the E. coli ribosome which does this through substructures, consisting of protein and RNA, which are spatially organized in the 70S ribosome and direct individual tRNAs to a common peptide bond formation site.
