Abstract
FURTHER seismological evidence on the ocean floor tectonics off northern California and Oregon has been obtained during a special study of the regional seismicity and tectonics of California and the adjacent Pacific Ocean1. This evidence makes somewhat clearer the mechanics of deformation at the complex intersection of the oceanic Mendocino–Gorda escarpments and the continental San Andreas fault and sheds light on the general question of deformation at places where spreading oceanic ridges reach continents.
