Abstract
Faraday rotation measurements have shown that there is a basic order in the galactic magnetic field which can be fitted by simple models. The data also indicate the presence of irregularities in electron density or magnetic field with a scale of 10° or smaller. A galactic depolarization effect in emission from extragalactic sources requires a microscale in the magnetic field and electron density of 10 to 100 s of arc (0.05 to 0.5 pc).
