Effect of Orotic Acid on Activity of Nuclear DNA-dependent RNA Polymerase and Polyribosomal Profiles in Deficient Chick Liver lacking Vitamin B12

Abstract

OROTIC acid, like vitamin B12, increases the RNA1 and free nucleotides2 in the liver of chicks deficient in vitamin B12 and stimulates the incorporation of phosphate labelled with phosphorus-32 into these structures3. More recently, a significant increase in the incorporation of 3H-formate into RNA of subcellular fractions of liver and into acid-soluble free nucleotides has been found in chicks treated with orotic acid4.
