Abstract
HYDROXYUREA has been reported to be a specific inhibitor of DNA synthesis in vitro and in vivo1,2. Inhibition results from interference with the reduction of ribonucleotides to deoxyribonucleotides1,3,4. Hydroxyurea has also been shown to inhibit the multiplication of vaccinia virus5 and T4 bacteriophage6. There has been some controversy concerning the part played by the host cell genome in the multiplication of the influenza virus7,8. Hydroxyurea was used in this study to gain insight into this question.
