Rheology of Microspheres injected into Circulation of Rabbits

Abstract

A RECENT innovation in the measurement of regional blood flow in animals is the use of radioactively labelled, rigid, inert microspheres of 50µ (±20µ) diameter which are injected into the circulation1. The amount of radioactivity in an organ is taken as an index of the number of spheres trapped by the microcirculation of the organ and, thus, of the relative blood flow to that organ.
