Abstract
THE yield stress or shear strength of a suspension is the critical stress which must be applied before the suspension will flow. This property of blood has been determined in the past by the extrapolation to zero shear rate from viscometry at higher shear rates, for example, (a) the extrapolation of low shear rate Couette viscometric data1–3, (b) the extrapolation of capillary tube viscometric data4 and (c) the torque-decay curve of the Couette viscometer2,3.
