Abstract

Leblond and Stevens1 have shown that the functional cells of the small intestine mucosa of rats migrate in a coherent sheet from the mouths of the crypts to the tips of the villi where they are sloughed off into the lumen. More recently many authors have shown that cellular proliferation and migration in the intestinal epithelium are influenced by a large number of factors and namely by endocrine deficiency2, starvation3, exposure to ionizing radiation4, partial resection of the small intestine5, age of the animal6 and the intestinal flora7. Data are reported here on the influence of a mixture of chemical radio-protectors on the cellular renewal of the small intestine of mice.
