Cortico-thalamic Facilitation of Somato-sensory Impulses

Abstract

RECENT evidence indicates that the cerebral cortex may excite or inhibit neurones of various sensory relay nuclei1–6. For example, stimulation of the cat cerebral cortex may give rise to trans-synaptic activation of relay cells of the thalamic ventrobasal complex, occurring some msec after the antidromic invasion of the same cells1,7–11.
