Substrate Specificity and Stereospecificity of Alcohol Dehydrogenases

Abstract

Yeast and alcohol dehydrogenases show very wide specificities for substrates, and the liver enzyme shows an unusual lack of optical specificity for secondary alcohols. This may be explained in terms of the structure of the enzyme.
