Villous Atrophy and Coccidiosis

Abstract

MEDICAL gastroenterology has advanced considerably since the introduction of a biopsy technique which permits histological examination of the intestinal mucosa1–4. The use of this procedure, and work on the determination of epithelial turnover times7,8 in the intestine of mammals, has given impetus to the study of villous atrophy (maturation arrest5) in patients suffering from malabsorption syndromes.
