Abstract
THE extensive discussions in the literature on the ability of polycyclic hydrocarbons to form charge-transfer complexes with various molecules1, for example, iodine, and the attempts which have been made to correlate this property with the carcinogenicity of the hydrocarbon1,2, prompted us to examine the electron spin resonance spectra of the charge-transfer complexes known to be formed3 by polycyclic hydrocarbons and the DNA and RNA bases.
