Abstract
CONTINENTAL drift in the Wegenerian sense is now an established theory. Also, it is believed that the super-continent Gondwanaland itself was drifting around before it was split up. This was suggested by Ahmad1, on the basis of his study of the glacial deposits in Gondwanaland, although Du Toit2 had earlier envisaged ‘drift en masse’, without elaborating the point further. The respectability the hypothesis has gained in recent years is, however, due entirely to palaeomagnetic studies3–6.
