Effect of Large Quantities of Homologous Globulin on Cells of the Plasma Series in Lymphatic Nodes

Abstract

THE homoeostatic mechanisms acting in the lymphoid cell system are still obscure. The hypothesis of mutual feed-back humoral interrelationships between the various mesenchymal cell derivatives is being tested in this laboratory1,2. Thymus suppresses the proliferation of plasma cells and directly or indirectly stimulates the maturation of these cells. This is the cause of the delayed and prolonged antibody formation in animals thymectomized at birth3. This communication describes experiments which we undertook to discover whether excess globulin suppresses the multiplication of plasma cells.
