Liberation of Adenine from Deoxyribonucleic Acid by Hydrogen Peroxide

Abstract

RECENTLY1, we have established a metabolic cycle producing virogens and mutagens, in which hydrogen peroxide performs a central function. It is assumed that these virogenic and mutagenic metabolites can act on nucleic acids in cells. We have now demonstrated that adenine is specifically liberated from deoxyribonucleic acid molecule by the action of hydrogen peroxide.
