Abstract
IT has been shown by various pharmacodynamic examinations that systemically administered local anaesthetics act only depressively on the central nervous, functions: for example, the cortical after-discharge1, the spinal reflex2, the reticular activating system3, the thalamic activating system4, the direct cortical response5, and the transcallosal evoked potential6. The reason why local anaesthetics in a toxic dose manifest a central nervous, excitation or convulsion has so far remained obscure.
