Microwave Observations of the Galactic Centre Region

Abstract

THIS communication describes a new set of observations of the region surrounding the radio source Sagittarius A, at present assumed to be the galactic centre. The observations were made at a frequency of 5 Gc/s, and the results are summarized in the form of a contour map showing the various components of radiation in this region. The position of the Sagittarius A source appears to differ slightly from the zero of the lIIbII co-ordinate system. The spectral index of the source, derived by comparing the flux density at 5 Gc/s with other measurements in the microwave band, indicates that it is non-thermal.
