Abstract
ON two spectrograms of α Aurigæ taken on August 25 and 26, 1964 (U.T.), we have found that the lithium line at λ6707.8 is much stronger in the F8 star than in the G5 component. Henceforth we will refer to the two components as Capella F and Capella G. One of tho spectra is shown in Fig. 1, where lines of both components have been identified. A density tracing is shown in Fig. 2. In this communication we will first present evidence to show that our identification is correct and will derive rough abundances of lithium in the two stars. We will then discuss the implications of this difference with reference to stellar structure and evolution.
