Abstract
SOME features of the radial distribution of randomly arranged equal spheres in close packing have been shown to agree well with the radial distribution found by neutron and X-ray diffraction for simple liquids1. The co-ordinates measured previously for a cluster of 1,000 steel balls were used to find the relative angular positions of neighbours in the first, second and third shells.
