Tissue Affinity as a Factor in Iron Deposition

Abstract

VARIOUS factors are known to influence the absorption of iron from the gastrointestinal tract. From work performed in our laboratory it would appear that an additional factor, not considered previously, is an alteration in the tissues, so that there is an increase in the affinity of the liver for iron.
