Cellular Uptake of Chloramphenicol as revealed by Fluorescence Microscopy

Abstract

As a preliminary to investigations of the effects of chloramphenicol on mammalian cells in culture, some means of measuring intracellular uptake of the drug was sought. The fluorescence of tetracycline has been used to observe its localization within cells1,2; an investigation was undertaken to see if similar methods could be applied to the examination of chloramphenicol.
