Abstract
IT has been assumed that the differentiation of primary sympathetic cells into chromaffin cells is stimulated by hormones produced by the adrenal cortex1. These hormones have also been thought to be necessary in the methylation of noradrenaline into adrenaline2. However, while medullary catecholamines are known to cause an increased secretion of cortical hormones3, no direct evidence is available of the influence of cortical hormones on chromaffin cells.
