Abstract
DURING the course of a survey of the aspirations and expectations of some 1,300 pupils about to leave school1 the following questions were asked, in a questionnaire administered in the classroom: When you are earning there are probably various things you hope to save up for. What do you hope to own after you have been working for a year? When you have been working for about 9 or 10 years? What do you hope to own by the time you retire?
