Rat Tail Tendon Denaturation and Rheumatic Diseases

Abstract

DR. B. J. RIGBY and co-workers1,2 in their studies on mechanical properties of rat tail tendon have extrapolated a possible explanation for the pathological alterations that occur in rheumatic diseases of humans. They consider the damaging effects of rheumatic diseases to be caused in part by a denaturation of collagen which was a function of temperature. It is our contention that the extrapolation cannot be made for several reasons.
