Abstract

DURING the investigations of the East African Marine Fisheries Research Organization into the resources of part of the coast of East Africa a hitherto uncharted shallow area was located off the north Kenya coast in the vicinity of Lamu1. Subsequent investigations have indicated that this area, designated the North Kenya Banks, has a good fish population and is of importance as a potential fishery2,3.
