Effects of 7-Chloro-2-methylamino-5-phenyl-3H-1,4-benzodiazepin-4-oxide on Mitochondria from Rat Liver and Brain

Abstract

ALTHOUGH little is known about the relations between in vivo drug action and the effects of a drug on metabolic processes in vitro, it has been confirmed that psychopharmacological materials in many cases act on oxidative reactions in the mitochondrial respiratory chain. The two different drugs, amytal and chlorpromazine, both, for example, have inhibitory effects on the flavoprotein in the respiratory chain1,2. Therefore it was of interest to test whether the new drug, 7-chloro-2-methylamino-5-phenyl-3H-1,4-benzodiazepin-4-oxide (CMPB, used as hydrochloride)1 acts on mitochondrial reactions in a similar manner.
