Abstract
THE nickel reaction, discovered by Katsuki et al.1, produces a red colour with pure cis isomers of α-keto-acid-2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazones and differentiates them from their corresponding trans isomers. We have found that this reaction applies to isomeric differentiation of the keto-acid hydrazones on paper chromatograms by the following procedures:
