Origin of Stone and Iron Meteorites

Abstract

THE question arises whether meteorites in general have had a common origin, and in particular whether the stone meteorites have had an origin different from that of the iron meteorites. One line of experimentation bearing on this problem is the determination of cosmic-ray exposure ages of meteorites. If the total content of a stable cosmogenic nuclide is measured, and if its rate of production can be determined, then the length of exposure to the radiation is known.
