Abstract
THE importance of studying the amplitudes of seismic body waves in relation to the structure of the Earth's mantle has been emphasized by several authors1,2. In previous investigations3–6, however, only general features of amplitude curves in limited distance intervals were given. Combining observations of four Middle European seismic stations—Prague, Jena, Collmberg and Potsdam—we obtained a sufficient set of homogeneous data to derive the fine structure of amplitude curves for P-, PP- and S-waves.
