Rate of Appearance of Mutants with Respiration-deficiency in Staphylococci

Abstract

MUTANTS of Staphylococcus aureus with impaired respiration were originally obtained under the action of ultra-violet radiation1, and as they differed in a number of important characters from the parent strain it was of interest to develop a simple method for their detection and to measure the frequency of appearance of these mutants in the parent culture under various conditions.
