Isotopic Composition of Lead from British Mineral Deposits

Abstract

IT is well established that in many cases there is an approximate relation between the isotopic composition of common lead and the geological age of the lead-bearing mineral deposit, especially when the latter is closely connected with major igneous activity. An isotopic study of several British lead ores (mainly galena) has given preliminary results which clearly indicate the usefulness of the method from a geological point of view. In the case of the British deposits the geological setting is usually well established, while Dunham has reviewed the structural and field evidence for their age1.
