Threshold Values for Taste in Monozygotic Twin Calves

Abstract

ELECTROPHYSIOLOGICAL studies have shown that specific taste receptors are distributed in definite topographical arrangements on the tongue of man and laboratory animals1,2. More recently, similar studies have been extended to include domesticated ruminants3. Taste discrimination has been demonstrated in a variety of laboratory animals4,5 and using this type of preference test, threshold values for rejection and acceptance of a variety of sapid substances have been established for a number of different species.
