Effect of Reduction of Stimulation on Consumption of Food, Intake of Water and Weight of Body in Rats

Abstract

RECENT work on factors determining the amount of general activity in animals indicates that such activity is related to: (a) the presence of stimuli previously associated with the diurnal cycle; (b) stimulus variety in the environment. However, the evidence is suggestive rather than conclusive, the main difficulty arising from the lack of specifiability and measurement of ‘general’ activity. We therefore investigated a readily measurable behaviour pattern, namely, eating and drinking.
