A Micro-electrophoretic Method

Abstract

A MICRO-ELECTROPHORETIC technique has been developed which is sensitive, simple and rapid and does not require any elaborate apparatus. Very clear results can be obtained with samples of the order of fractions of a micro-litre with a protein content of 10 µgm. and even less. The technique is a combination of the membrane filter electrophoresis1 and, in particular, of the small-scale technique2, with the use of a very sensitive stain–‘Nigrosin’3. All details of the membrane-filter electrophoresis apply as well to the micro-technique.
