Mean Free Path of Phonons in a Lead Crystal

Abstract

THE high flux of ‘cold’ neutrons now obtainable using the liquid hydrogen source1, in the Harwell pile BEPO, has been used to investigate the mean free path of phonons in a lead crystal from observation of the spectrum of inelastically scattered neutrons.
