A New Form of Male Sterility in Nicotiana tabacum L.

Abstract

MALE sterility in tobacco has been reported previously by Clayton1 in advanced back-cross generations of two interspecific crosses between Nicotiana debneyi and N. megalosiphon as female parents, and N. tabacum as pollen parent. He suggested that the cause may be incompatibility between the cytoplasmic constituents of the former and the nuclear constituents of the latter.
