Abstract
SMALL quantities of an amino-acid which, from its position on two-dimensional paper chromatograms and other properties, does not appear to be an acid already reported in plant material, has been isolated, by use of a series of ion-exchange columns, as fine silky needles from the peel tissue of immature Worcester Pearmain apples. This acid is also certainly present in the peel of mature Edward VII apples and probably in the peel of other varieties, but it is absent from the sub-cortical tissue (‘pulp’) of all the varieties so far examined.
