Abstract
MANY relationships have been suggested for the relative viscosity, ηr, of a suspension of rigid, smooth spheres in a liquid in terms of the volumetric concentration c. Einstein1 obtained the equation: for a suspension of spherical particles at infinite dilution and devoid of such influences as agglomeration, solvation, accumulation of electric charge and so forth. Other equations and empirical relationships have also been derived by different workers.
