Abstract
WHEN Pfeiffer1, in 1923, suggested that in complex compounds of the type (LMCl2)2 (L = non-ionic ligand; M = divalent metal, for example, PtII), the metal atoms were ‘bridged’ by halogen atoms as in (I), he also pointed out the possible existence of isomers (II) and (III); but no proved case of such isomerism has yet been reported in any series of bridged complexes, whether the metal atoms show a tetrahedral or planar co-ordination.
