Abstract
DURING the last fifteen years it has been proved that the processes of growth and reproduction in insects are controlled by hormones circulating hi the blood. In some instances the source of these hormones has been well established. For example, the ‘juvenile hormone’ present in the young stages, which prevents the premature occurrence of meta-morphosis, is a product of the corpus allatum. But there is still much confusion, both in knowledge and in terminology, about the organs which may be concerned in these hormonal mechanisms.
