Abstract
Hurd and Mold1 have recently described the dehydration of 2-fluorenylcyclohexanol to a saturated hydrocarbon to which they attribute the structure (I) of 1 : 9-cyclohexylenenuorene. If this structure were correct, the result would be of considerable importance, for it would represent the first successful attempt to prepare a compound having the highly strained ring-system (II) which von Braun had completely failed to obtain2.
