Effect of Sputum on Streptomycin

Abstract

IN a small series of seventeen cases of whooping cough treated with streptomycin, no beneficial effects were noted. The children receiving parenteral therapy, five hours after injection, had blood-levels of 2–12 units per ml. It was not possible to detect streptomycin in the blood of thirteen patients receiving aerosal therapy after 15, 30, 60 min. or 3 hr. The urine of these patients at no time during 24 hr. showed the presence of streptomycin.
