Abstract
IN the Amphibia and Amniota, the original bisexuality of the gonad is evident from the dual origin of its two main constituents—the cortex from the peritoneal wall, and the medulla from the interrenal blastema1. Sexualization of the germ cells, which are originally indifferent, results from the action of one or other of the sexual differentiators which are produced in these areas, medullarin inducing maleness and cortexin femaleness (Witschi).
