Principles of Modern Building

Abstract

ONE of the principal functions of the staff engaged at the Building Research Station, Garston, is to provide answers to the numerous inquiries received from all branches of the industry. These have led to the examination of building practice from every possible point of view, and this volume, compiled by the member of the staff responsible for dealing with these inquiries, contains information which has been collated from an experience unique in its extent and in its authoritativeness. This volume deals only with walls, partitions and chimneys, and is the first of a series the preparation of which has been undertaken at the joint request of the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Chartered Surveyors’ Institution. It represents also the first fruits of a suggestion contained in the interim report of the Ministry of Health Committee on the Construction of Flats for the Working Classes.
