Abstract
M. BERNARD LYOT, of the Astrophysical Section of the Paris Observatory, delivered the George Darwin Lecture before the Royal Astronomical Society on May 12, the subject being “A Study of the Solar Corona and Prominences without Eclipses”. To this research, M. Lyot has made unique and fundamental contributions for which he has been awarded this year the Royal Astronomical Society's Gold Medal. The presentation of the Medal was made prior to the lecture by the president of the Society, Prof. H. C. Plummer, who spoke of the medallist's great achievement in recording for the first time the sun's corona without an eclipse.
