Abstract
THE ten lectures which make up the present volume were delivered in Cambridge during 1936, under the auspices of the then newly formed History of Science Committee, and it is not surprising to learn from the preface that they were attended by crowded and enthusiastic audiences. A glance at the list of authors will show that the Committee was fortunate in being able to enlist the services of a most distinguished team of lecturers, and as the volume itself shows, it was equally fortunate in being able to secure the manuscripts of the lectures in a form suitable for publication.
