Abstract
SMALL differences in the colour of solutions of copper sulphate and silver permanganate when dissolved in deuterium oxide instead of ordinary water have been reported by Bell1, and Hein and Bähr2 respectively. Displacement of the absorption lines in the spectrum of potassium chrome selenium alum (KCr(SeO)412 H2O)3 and of several complex chromium salts4 when H2O is replaced by D2O have also been observed. Bell's work was confirmed by Brodsky and Zanko5, who made spectrophotometric measurements with copper sulphate in pure H4O, 43·6 per cent and 92·7 per cent D2O mixtures.
