Abstract
IN his presidential address to Section J (Psychology), Dr. R. H. Thouless deals with the implications for the theory of visual perception of the fact that the physiological mechanism of vision is not only the retinal surface but also the whole system which includes retina, optic nerve, visual area of the cortex, and to some extent, other sensory areas of the brain as well.
